About

An independent studio, run by one engineer.

I'm Devan. I take over software nobody understands any more, and make it safe to change.

Most of my work starts the same way: a brownfield system, an inherited team, and no handover.

The code still runs. What's gone is the understanding of why it's shaped the way it is. That understanding decays whether or not anyone leaves.

I embed, work out what's actually true, and sequence the work so each step is reversible. Then I leave the team able to keep going without me.

Mostly CTOs and heads of engineering who inherited a system. They need an independent read they can take to a board, and someone who'll do the work rather than hand over a slide deck.

Sometimes a founder whose product was built by contractors, or by a founding engineer who has since moved on.

I publish my own misses. My security reviews audit each other, and my progress reports lead with what got worse.

A test suite nobody has watched fail is theatre. So I break things on purpose and watch the tests catch them.

I use AI heavily. It's how one person delivers what normally takes a team, and I can show you what it bought.

I don't hold standing production credentials.

Perth, on AWST. I work with clients nationally. For Perth clients, on-site embedding is included rather than billed as travel. AWST also lines up cleanly with Singapore and Hong Kong.

Between engagements I build and run my own products, including Reorder Radar and Cron Commando. They're on the Selected Work list, along with the five ways to work with me.
